The beauty of Mizoram lies in its unique harmony between man and nature. The clouds come to rest in the valleys, rainbows abound, small waterfalls gurgle past, greenery is all encompassing handicrafts are in plenty, the shawls are colourful and markets exude cheer. Wherever one turns, a separate type of beauty unfolds and cheerful and innocent laughter is all pervasive.

We start our journey in Reiek. This is one destination one should not miss to visit. It’s calling you to witness her exotic beauty. The gentle slope on the western side of the mountain is covered with virgin forest preserved since the day of the Mizo Chiefs. Reiek village lies at the base of the mountain while a Tourist Resort, offering comfortable stay, is located halfway up the mountain. Attached to the Resort is a typical Mizo village showcasing traditional implements of the Mizo. For the adventurous, a trekking trail from the Resort leads to the peak of the Mountain.

We continue our trip to Hmuifang Mountain which is still covered with virgin forest. The mountain has beautiful cliffs and offers great views of the surrounding hills. The patches of grassy glades on the peak are also ideal for picnics and outdoor camping. From here, you may visit the five Mizo villages situated in the hill side – Hmuifang, Sumsuih, Lamchhip, Chamring and Sialsuk village to experience the rural life of the Mizos. Again to the nature lovers, the forests abound with fascinating varieties of flora and fauna.

We finally head to Champhai, commercial town located near the Myanmar border. It has a good view of the adjoining hill range of Myanmar from which the forefather of Mizos immigrated ages ago. Champhai is an ideal shopping place for various imported goods. The town is also a convenient base for trekking and visiting last border trade centre Zokhawthar and mythical Rihdil lake located 5 Km within Myanmar.
